 2017 Preview 


       St. Luke's finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year St. Luke's finished sixth in Class 2A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 405 points last season.

       St. Luke's had a very good offense last year, scoring 35.1 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 40.5 points per game.

       The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, St. Luke's has gone a combined 30-40. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Ronn Lee who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-15 over the past two seasons at St. Luke's. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lee.

       Coach Lee's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 100-134 (42.7%). His 100 wins rank th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Lee's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship.

       The St. Luke's Wildcats will play in Class 2A region one during the 2017 season.

       This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

       The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Kinston on Friday, September 1 at West Mobile Park. Last year the Kinston Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 1A region two. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Samson by a score of 42-20.

       This will be the second meeting between St. Lukes and Kinston on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-0-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with St. Luke's winning by a score of 48-16.
